8 WAYS TO SQUEEZE IN SELF-CARE IF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH GETS IN THE WAY

I understand that self-care is a chore most times especially if you are a person that mental health prevents from actualizing self-care routines. These are a few tips you can adopt to make things to be easier for you.

1. Morning and Night time routines

You can have a routine for making sure you wash your face with soap once in the morning and once at night and also don't forget to moisturize, Dry skin can spell disaster for breakouts. And if you still have time on your hands you can also apply serums as well.

2. Celebrate yourself even in small ways

This is also a good pattern to adopt so you don't have any mental breakdowns and skin breakouts as well. Appreciate yourself in the days you did your best, celebrate your small wins in the period of the year, ress your best when stepping out from your house, get yourself treats from time to time, share your success stories to anyone willing to listen.

3. Use your PTO even for mental health days

People have different issues they have going on and yours isn't any different from theirs, if you are very aware of the ones that weigh you down mentally then this is the time to give yourself peace of mind, Yes ! Temporarily switch off your phones, laptops, and other gadgets you use, abstain from your favorite social media platform and prioritize on your solitude, create a playlist of songs that ease off stress as well.

4. Ask for help and accept when it's given

There are times you can get really lazy and uninspired to do your chores, cook your meals or even do laundry. Asking a friend or family member to help you out is also a way to manage your mental health. It takes away the burden of having to deal with multiple things that would strain your mental health.

5. Practice daily gratitude

A personally adopted a habit of standing in front of the mirror once I get up from bed and say words of affirmation while looking at myself in the mirror. If you prefer to pen down a couple things you could read to yourself on a note then that would be good as well. I also recommend saying words of affirmation to yourself on the move, whether on your way to work, school or on official/nonofficial assignments etc.

6. Prioritize your sleep

I understand that having mental health issues comes with the issues of having insomnia. Finding a good sleep pattern that works for you would be a good way to deal with it. Listen to your body anytime it's ready to get some shut eyes. Try reading a book, listening to music or singing a lullaby if it helps to make you fall asleep with ease.

7. Eat

I know most times that the thought of eating eludes you especially when you have a lot on your mind to think about. If it helps try snacking on fruits when you don't feel inspired to prepare your meals then sought for ways to get food at later hours.

8. Rest when your body calls for it

Wahala no dey finish. You have to rest when you're tired or uninspired to work. If your work in an environment permits it then find a way to rest at intervals during work hours because after each rest is when you become more productive to work.

In conclusion, finding time to care for yourself when you feel uninspired or tired is very essential and enables us to live a fuller and happier life. So take these tips with you, applying at least four (4) of them and sticking to it sparingly will certainly bring out positive changes in your life. So, what self-care activities do you think you can adopt ?

REMINISCING ON A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT WITH MY DAD

My sister sent me pictures and the flashback that came with it was massive I could remember how everything playedout on that sunday. The house helps we had then had a terrible way of waking us up with utali (Cane), I could also remember the taste of the kelloggs corn flakes i had that morning because it was literally the only thing i ate that made me feel happy at the time. I could remember my mom yelling in a loud tone of her voice for us to get dressed up, i didn't want to go anywhere but did anyone care about my feelings, No 💔... I could remember how that was the first time i saw my Dad give a testimony in church and that was the last time i ever saw him ever go to any church, lol. The one thing i never forgot was him handing me that water bottle in that picture and him warning me not to loose it, so i made sure i guarded it with my life, even though i got tired of carrying it i still had the rope tied to my hand. He decided to give us a treat at Mr biggs in 22rd in festac afte...
